Voiceover Recording and Editing

Doodly allows for recording voiceovers only with zero editing or adjusting capabilities within the software and although this might appear tempting at first, there are some very important details to be aware of before beginning to record in Doodly.

Preview Window

The preview window that appears while recording within Doodly looks as if it is a nice touch but it plays back at 10fps (frames per second) making the doodle appear as if it is lagging and slow.

Editing

This is non-existent in Doodly. Doodly is not an audio editing piece of software and therefore does not come with the tools that are available to us if we record with software such as Adobe Audition or Audacity.

There is no cropping capability or overwriting capability after recording. You can delete, fade in and fade out and that is it.

Recording

The quality highly depends on your microphone.

Exporting

There is no ability to export just the audio as a .mp3 or .wav file. The only audio that can be exported is the .ogg file which is mainly utilized on Android devices. This forces us to get created and export to either an .ogg file or a .mp4 file and then export the audio from there.

Note: The above limitations make it not a wise decision to record within Doodly.

Professional Editing

We have software available to use that allows us to record and edit audio. There are free audio editing software packages listed in question #5, Where can I obtain free commercial use assets?, of our Top 50 Doodly Frequently Asked Questions.
